The Village's Planning and Zoning Commission will hold the formal public hearing on the complete MP2040 Comprehensive Plan on Wednesday, August 27 at 7:00 PM at Village Hall (also livestreamed). This is residents' key opportunity to weigh in before the plan moves to the Village Board for adoption in September. The Comprehensive Plan doesn't rezone any property or approve specific projects, rather it sets the long-term policy direction for growth, housing, transportation, and public investment across the Village.

After more than a year of community input, research, and drafting, the first full draft of MP2040, Mount Prospect's updated Comprehensive Plan, covering land use, housing, business districts, transportation, and community character for the next two decades, is now available for public review. Review it online and submit written comments through the end of July. After the comment period closes, the draft goes to the Planning and Zoning Commission for a public hearing in August, followed by Village Board adoption in September, so now is the time to weigh in before the plan is finalized.

The first DRAFT of the Mount Prospect 2040 Comprehensive Plan is ready and we want your input!

Join us at the MP2040 Open House on Tuesday, June 30 any time from 10am–8pm at Village Hall, 50 S Emerson St. This is your first opportunity to review the full draft plan, ask questions of Village staff, and submit comments that will be considered as part of the formal adoption process.

Format

The open house will be drop-in format. Staff will be on hand to walk you through the plan's key topics — land use, housing, transportation, economic development, parks, and community facilities — and answer questions. Display boards and printed materials will be available all day.

Public Comment Period

Can't make it on June 30? A 30-day public comment period opens in July, giving residents additional time to review the draft and submit written feedback. Comments received during this period will be considered by the Planning & Zoning Commission at its public hearing in August.

The Village of Mount Prospect has released the MP2040 Vision, Goals, and Objectives Report. The reportis a foundational document for the Comprehensive Plan that reflects community input gathered over the past year.

The report establishes a long-term vision for Mount Prospect through 2040 and sets the goals and objectives that will guide the plan's policies and recommendations across housing, transportation, economic development, parks, community facilities, and more.

Also included is the MP2040 Future Land Use Guide, which describes how different parts of the Village could grow and change over time. The Guide is a policy document, not a zoning map — it does not change existing zoning or commit the Village to any specific project. Any change to permitted land uses would still require a full public review process, including rezoning hearings, Planning and Zoning Commission review, and Village Board approval.

We invite all residents, property owners, and stakeholders to review the report and share your feedback. Your input will help shape the policies and priorities that guide Mount Prospect's future.

The Village has released the Community Engagement Report, a summary of what Mount Prospect residents, business owners, and community members shared during the first phase of the MP2040 Comprehensive Plan process.

The report captures input gathered through surveys, public meetings, and community events held throughout 2024. It highlights the themes and priorities that rose to the top — from housing and transportation to parks, local business, and the overall character of our neighborhoods.

The Village has released the Existing Conditions Report, a snapshot of where Mount Prospect stands today. The report looks at things like population, housing, transportation, and parks to give a clear picture of today’s community.

This report is the foundation for the Comprehensive Plan. By understanding where we are today, we can make better choices about where we want to go tomorrow.
